In this paper recent techniques for recovering information implied by options market prices and realized returns are applied empirically to measure the risk aversion of investors in the Israeli stock market. We determine nonparametric volatility smile, densities and risk aversion functions from a ten years sample of daily option and stock market prices. Moreover, we construct a time series of the absolute risk aversion, and study its variation over time. We report decreasing and generally positive risk aversion function, which varies substantially over time and is negatively correlated with the ATM implied volatility.

However, risk and return are highly correlated so that investors have to manage this trade-off. Risk management is thus essential both for investment managers and company executives. Within portfolio management and corporate practice risk can be reduced by diversification. In the "Risk Management" part Portfolio Theory - particularly Markowitz' Portfolio Selection - is to be introduced and the most common measures of risk i.e. volatility, covariance, correlation and the beta factor are to be presented. The next section refers to Mergers and Acquisitions and starts with a general intro-duction of the topic. Afterwards, M&A is to be related to diversification as a means of risk minimization. Finally, by the example of ThyssenKrupp, the theoretical assumptions of the first two parts are to be applied.

Risk involves exposure to a chance of injury or loss. The fact that risk inherently involves chance leads directly to a need to describe and to deal with uncertainty. Corps policy has long been (1) to acknowledge risk and the uncertainty in predicting floods and flood impacts, and (2) to plan accordingly. Historically, that planning relied on analysis of the expected long-term performance of flood-damage-reduction measures, on application of safety factors and freeboard, on designing for worst-case scenarios, and on other indirect solutions to compensate for uncertainty. These indirect approaches were necessary because of the lack of technical knowledge of the complex interaction of uncertainties in predicting hydrologic, hydraulic, and economic functions and because of the complexities of the mathematics required to do otherwise.

In this context this book aims to point out the risks of an adverse change in interest rates for a corporate portfolio of interest-bearing positions and show possibilities to measure and manage these risks.First the scene for interest risk management in a corporate treasury of a service enterprise is set by providing essential knowledge about financial risk management and giving an insight into the characteristics of a service enterprise as well as the responsibilities of a corporate treasury and the factors that influence the treasury risk management approach. This is followed by a process-oriented instruction of how to quantify interest rate risk and how to manage it. Besides the risk measures duration and convexity, two different approaches to value at risk, the historical simulation and the variance-covariance-approach, will be examined. For the management of the interest rate risk an overview of possible hedging instruments to reduce interest risk exposure will be given and their different strategies examined. All approaches will be measured against their practical feasibility and for both, the quantification and the management of interest r...

It is shown that return continuation can be found for "winner" indices whereas "loser" indices exhibit a return reversal. Winner indices systematically outperform loser indices. The evaluated momentum strategies generate abnormal profits in the overall sample but also in different market environments. Re- turns are correlated with the market environment. A diversified index port-folio does not achieve a better risk-adjusted performance than a single index investment. In the CAPM and Fama-French framework, these mo-mentum profits can not be explained - a statistically significant positive alpha remains. Macroeconomic lagged factors can partly explain momen-tum profits but remain undetermined.

Most traders look at risk in terms of a «stop-loss» that enables them to exit a losing trade quickly. In The Risk of Trading, Michael Toma explains that risk is ever-present in every aspect of trading and advocates that traders adopt a more comprehensive view of risk that encompasses the strategic trading plan, account size, drawdowns, maximum possible losses, psychological capital, and crisis management. Shows how to conduct a detailed statistical analysis of an individual's trading methodology through back-testing and real-time results so as to identify when the methodology may be breaking down in actual trading Reveals why traders should think of themselves as project managers who are strategically managing risk The book is based on the author's unique 'focus on the risk' approach to trading using data-driven risk statistical analytics Using this book as a guide, traders can operate more as business managers and learn how to avoid market-busting losses while achieving consistently good results.

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Psychology - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Lund University (Department of Psychology), language: English, abstract: Climate change has become one of the greatest concerns of the 21st century as its ramifications pose a major risk to all life on earth. However, not all individuals are aware of this risk and behavioral engagement to counteract the issue is often still lacking. This research examined the relationship between climate change risk perception and pro-environmental behavior. The aim of this cross-sectional study was twofold. First, studying specific pro-environmental behavior and second, using a methodological approach that addresses the measurement inconsistencies in the literature on how to define and operationalize climate change risk perception. The sample consisted of 141 young educated adults (M = 25.67, SD = 2.93) who responded to an online questionnaire. Results showed that climate change risk perception significantly predicted pro-environmental behavior. Comparing personal worry and general concern as two distinct indicators of climate change risk perception indicated that personal worry was stronger correlated to pro-environmental behavior. This relationship was found to be partially mediated by pro-environmental behavioral intentions. Results of a multiple hierarchical regression showed that including personal worry as an additional predictor variable did not significantly increase the explained variance i...

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: 8, University of Groningen, language: English, abstract: The reader is introduced to term structure modelling using the Dynamic Nelson-Siegel model. Assuming an independent and correlated specification for its factors, we estimate the factor dynamics by maximum likelihood. Additionally, estimation of the factors is done by Kalman filtering. We derive a closed-form distribution for future factors, forecast them and present the insample and out-of-sample forecasts. As a useful addition, we discuss the main finding of the thesis, namely a stochastic model for the predicted yield curve, when a future yield with certain maturity is given.

Screening of HCV during pregnancy is not routinely done in Egypt as many other countries, although pregnancy is an important period where screening of HCV infection is important owing to low immunity, the possibility of vertical transmission and later on horizontal transmission to the baby or other household contacts.Aim: to determine the seroprevalence of HCV antibodies (HCV-Ab) and risk factors associated with infection among pregnant women in Egypt.Patients and Method: 360 pregnant women visiting the health care units for routine antenatal care were tested using 3rd generation ELISA test for detection of HCV-Ab. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was done for seropositive cases. Results: 6.1% (22/360) of pregnant women were HCV seropositive; of them only (9/20; 45%) had viraemia. Risk factors were their age, the age of their and the presence of chronic liver disease in the husband. Conclusion: The prevalence of HCV infection in pregnant women in Egypt appears to be lower than previously reported. The detected risk factors are old age of the pregnant women and their husbands and chronic liver disease in the husbands. None of the other known risk factors was found to be significantly associated with HCV infection in pregnant women.

The fact that piped water provision is a natural monopoly and therefore needs extensive regulation makes the cooperation between the public and private sector very difficult. A risk measurement and management framework that takes model risk seriously Most financial risk models assume the future will look like the past, but effective risk management depends on identifying fundamental changes in the marketplace as they occur. Bayesian Risk Management details a more flexible approach to risk management, and provides tools to measure financial risk in a dynamic market environment. This book opens discussion about uncertainty in model parameters, model specifications, and model-driven forecasts in a way that standard statistical risk measurement does not. And unlike current machine learning-based methods, the framework presented here allows you to measure risk in a fully-Bayesian setting without losing the structure afforded by parametric risk and asset-pricing models. Recognize the assumptions embodied in classical statistics Quantify model risk along multiple dimensions without backtesting Model time series without assuming stationarity Estimate state-space time series models online with simulation methods Uncover uncertainty in workhorse risk and asset-pricing models Embed Bayesian thinking about risk within a complex organization Ignoring uncertainty in risk modeling creates an illusion of mastery and fosters erroneous decision-making. Firms who ignore the many dimensions of model risk measure too little risk, and end up taking on too much. Bayesian Risk Management provides a roadmap to better risk management through more circumspect measurement, with comprehensive treatment of model uncertainty.

It shares habitat with domestic buffaloes and human, which has increased the risk of persistence of diseases like Bovine Tuberculosis(BTB). A study was done in Buffer Zone of this Wildlife Reserve to study frequency of BTB and risk factors associated with it. Tuberculin testing was conducted among selected domestic buffaloes using single intradermal test (SIDT); 11.71% were found positive to BTB. Several factors like age of animal, lactation and period of domestic buffaloes grazing inside the reserve were significantly associated with BTB infection. Although 24.5% of interviewed households had at least one human tuberculosis case in the family, no statistically significant association was observed between diseased buffalo and human tuberculosis in the household. Only few people in the area had knowledge of BTB, and they were not conscious of its transmission between livestock, human and wild animals. This study emphasizes the risk of disease transmission in wildlife-livestock interface which is useful reference for the professionals working in wildlife reserves.
