This new design technique is applied in the disegn of a MUX and a DMUX. Both the MUX and the DMUX are designed to operate at 15 Gb/s and fabricated on 0.18 um CMOS technology. The new design technique proves its ability to achieve more speed in digital circuits compared to conventional desgin techniques.

Therefore there is a need of dynamic logic families. In the dynamic Logic families on the other hand, it needs a clock signal for all the combinational circuits. This poses a serious problem in clock distribution but makes the circuits more synchronous. All the logic families vary in their certain parameters, like the speed, power, noise margin, circuit area, and above all the figure of merit. There is no family that can be used in all the design problems, some family may require less circuit area, but be too slow for a high speed design, on the other hand, one family may be high speed, but too costly on the circuit area parameter. In this work, transient and DC analysis of various families has been done.

Design Of High Performance CMOS Circuits Using Domino Logic

Dynamic logic circuits have been popularly used in advanced high speed processors as they occupy less area and have higher speed in comparison with the static CMOS counterparts. Domino logic is one of the popular dynamic logic. The major problems with domino gates are higher dynamic power, static power and lower noise immunity than static logic circuits. In this work, an attempt has been made to design novel circuit techniques for robust, energy-efficient and high performance domino logic circuits in deep submicron technology. All the existing and proposed techniques have been simulated and tested using VLSI back end tools. The logic swing at the output, power dissipation, propagation delay, PDP, area, and noise margins have been evaluated. The study has been carried in 65 nm technology at clock frequencies of 0.05 to 1.5 GHz. The attempt of designing novel circuit techniques for robust, energy-efficient, and high performance domino logic circuits in DSM technology has been achieved. The designed circuits are having better results than the existing circuits in terms of power dissipation, propagation delay, PDP, and noise immunity.

A fine cost-performance ratio comparator design based on modified 1’s complement principle and conditional sum adder scheme using Hybrid PTL/CMOS logic style has been proposed in this report and the proposed design has small power dissipation, low power delay product and less area over various parameter ranges. Simulations are based on BSIM 3V3 90nm CMOS technology. It shows an 8-bit comparator of the proposed architecture only needs 154 transistors.

Starting with the basics of CNT and CNTFET this book discusses the modeling of CNTFET using Verilog-AMS language. The design of the basic logic gates is presented. The designs are simulated to verify their functionality and extract the speed and power performances. The design of reconfigurable logic circuits using transmission gate based logic is also presented. A ring oscillator circuit has been designed using CNTFET and it is found that the circuit can operate at very high frequency of 114 GHz.

The advancement of CMOS technologies paved the road for a growing market of mobile and portable electronic devices. This growth is driven by the continual integration of complex analog and digital building blocks on a single chip, so silicon area and power consumption are the two most valued aspects of the design. Compared to static CMOS logic, dynamic logic offers good performance. Wide fan-in logic such as domino circuits is used in high-performance applications. Dynamic domino logic circuits are widely used in modern digital VLSI circuits. These dynamic circuits are often favored in high performance designs because of the speed advantage offered over static CMOS logic circuits. In this dissertation, 2:1 multiplexer and 1:2 decoder is proposed. The proposed 2:1 multiplexer and 1:2 decoder design based on proposed high performance domino logic circuit are tested in 45nm and 65nm technologies to prove its technology independence. Design is also experimented under various substrate-biasing schemes and then the best substrate biasing technique is implemented. The proposed design is better in terms of power, delay and power delay product in comparison to other biasing conditions.

This work describes a new 20-transistor low power high speed hybrid CMOS full adder and a new carry skip adder suitable for use in multipliers. A new modular design method for design of n x n multipliers using Vedic algorithm for multiplication has been proposed. The proposed design method uses more number of gates than array multiplier using Wallace tree but offers the advantages of simple and systematic interconnection scheme and maximum design reuse.

Need for larger memory capacity, higher speed, and lower power dissipation.In this work, design of low power high speed sense amplifier for CMOS SRAMs has been done. It has to sense the lowest possible signal swing from the SRAMs bit lines and its response time should be very fast while keeping the power consumption within a tolerable limit. This sense amplifier will be based on latest architectures available in literature and my focus will be to improve the power consumption and response time.

Simulation results of applying external disturbances to the synchronous generator controlled by the proposed fuzzy logic controllers are compared to results obtained by using neural network controllers. These controllers based on excitation control are used to improve the performance of the synchronous generator. The simulation results show the advantages and the improvements with using the proposed fuzzy logic controllers over using the proposed neural network controllers. The potentials of the proposed techniques are investigated in time and frequency domains by using MATLAB software package.

Design of Traffic Signal Coordination using Fuzzy Logic

Coordinated traffic signals regulate traffic flow through urban areas and minimize delay and maximize traffic flow. In this study an attempt is made to design coordinated traffic signal using the concept of fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is very effective in incorporating those parameters which have an inherent fuzziness in them like the user perception. Coordinated signal is designed using fuzzy logic by formulating fuzzy rules relating the qualitative parameter (Quality of progression) and other important quantitative parameters like average stream speed, V/C ratio and average control delay .Measures of effectiveness like average control delay per vehicle per cycle length, band width and efficiency are used to determine the efficiency of signal coordination. It was found that design using Fuzzy logic concept is more efficient and can also account for the dynamic traffic flow conditions.

The Effect of Magnetic Field on Combustion and Emissions

The current experimental study aims to investigate the effect of magnetic field on internal combustion engines. The study concentrates on engine performance by examining fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The magnetic field was applied to the fuel supply line of a typical SI engine using unleaded gasoline fuel. Moreover, the magnetic field was generated by electromagnets with a twelve-volts car battery while varying the strength and configuration of the magnetic field. The experiments were conducted at a variety of engine operating conditions by using an engine dynamometer setup. The exhaust gas emissions of CO, NOx, and HC were measured by using an online gas analyzer. The magnetic effect on SFC reduction was only consistently significant at the lowest load of 20 Nm and both speed extremes of 1000 and 3000 rpm using one magnet. The effect on CO was the most significant reduction of all other emissions at most engine’s loads and speeds, especially at lowest speed of 1000 rpm using five magnets. The effect on NOx was the most consistent reduction of all others with the most effect using the ‘Spiral’ configuration at lowest speed of 1000 rpm.

In this Book, a modern FPGA card (Spartan-3A, Xilinx Company) is used to realized a novel Fuzzy- PID control strategy on a complex system; a three- phase induction motor (squirrel cage type) is selected as a case study. The Fuzzy logic control demonstrates a good performance. Furthermore, Fuzzy logic offers the advantage of a faster design, and emulation of human control strategies. Also, Fuzzy control works well for high-order and nonlinear and shows the efficiency over the PID controller. The proposed controller and the pulse width modulator (PWM) inverter algorithm which have been built in FPGA have resulted in a fast speed response and a good stability in controlling the three-phase induction motor. For comparison purpose, two widely used controllers are realized using the same FPGA kit: PID and Fuzzy. Simulations are performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK (R2009a) with varying load and speed conditions. The Fuzzy-PID control strategy outperformed both PID and Fuzzy controllers. This book has focussed on designing high performance Network Intrusion Detection Systems models, we have presented two designs to address limitations of Packet Loss and Low Detection Rate. The first high performance mechanism is based on Dynamic Cluster adoption using refined policy routing and Comparator Logic. The traffic load sharing mechanism reduces the packet drop by exchanging state information between load-balancer and cluster nodes and implementing switch overs between nodes in case the traffic exceeds pre-defined threshold. Comparator Logic enhances the overall efficiency by recovering lost data and analyzing it to identify threats. Intelligent Anomaly Detection Filtration (IADF) using cascaded architecture of anomaly-based filtration and signature-based detection process is the second high performance design. The IADF design is used to preserve resources of NIDS by eliminating large portion of the traffic on well defined logics. We have evaluated the mechanism to detect Denial of Service (DoS) and Probe attempts based by analyzing its performance on Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) dataset.

This book aims to design CMOS programmable current mode building blocks and field programmable analog arrays (FPAAs). A detailed study of programmable current operational trans-conductance amplifiers (OTA) is presented. Five proposed fully differential digitally programmable OTAs based on using fully differential CCs and current division networks are presented. Two of the proposed OTAs are realized using CMOS current division networks while the other three OTAs are realized using MOS current division networks. The proposed OTAs CMOS designs and simulations are presented in details. All the proposed OTAs are digitally controlled using three-bit code word. A multi-standard baseband receiver chain suitable for Bluetooth/UMTS/DVB-H/WLAN standards is presented as an application using the proposed OTA. Three novel FPAA architectures are given based on the proposed OTAs. The FPAAs have hexagonal layout. Two of the proposed FPAA architectures are realized using fully differential CC and CMOS current division network based programmable OTA. The third FPAA architecture is realized using fully differential CCs and MOS ladder current division network based programmable OTA.

The design goal is to increasethe data conversion rate i.e the throughput to a substantial value so thatthe design can be used as a separate hardware module in high speed network applications.
