This book was written in response to the growing demand for a text that provides a unified treatment of linear and nonlinear complex valued adaptive filters, and methods for the processing of general complex signals (circular and noncircular). It brings together adaptive filtering algorithms for feedforward (transversal) and feedback architectures and the recent developments in the statistics of complex variable, under the powerful frameworks of CR (Wirtinger) calculus and augmented complex statistics. This offers a number of theoretical performance gains, which is illustrated on both stochastic gradient algorithms, such as the augmented complex least mean square (ACLMS), and those based on Kalman filters. This work is supported by a number of simulations using synthetic and real world data, including the noncircular and intermittent radar and wind signals.

This book serves as a comprehensive source of asymptotic results for econometric models with deterministic exogenous regressors. Such regressors include linear (more generally, piece-wise polynomial) trends, seasonally oscillating functions, and slowly varying functions including logarithmic trends, as well as some specifications of spatial matrices in the theory of spatial models. The book begins with central limit theorems (CLTs) for weighted sums of short memory linear processes. This part contains the analysis of certain operators in Lp spaces and their employment in the derivation of CLTs. The applications of CLTs are to the asymptotic distribution of various estimators for several econometric models. Among the models discussed are static linear models with slowly varying regressors, spatial models, time series autoregressions, and two nonlinear models (binary logit model and nonlinear model whose linearization contains slowly varying regressors). The estimation procedures include ordinary and nonlinear least squares, maximum likelihood, and method of moments. Additional topical coverage includes an introduction to operators, probabilities, and linear models; Lp-approximable sequences of vectors; convergence of linear and quadratic forms; regressions with slowly varying regressors; spatial models; convergence; nonlinear models; and tools for vector autoregressions.

Nonlinear problems are of interest to engineers, physicists and mathematicians and many other scientists because most systems are inherently nonlinear in nature. As nonlinear equations are difficult to solve, nonlinear systems are commonly approximated by linear equations. This works well up to some accuracy and some range for the input values, but some interesting phenomena such as chaos and singularities are hidden by linearization and perturbation analysis. It follows that some aspects of the behavior of a nonlinear system appear commonly to be chaotic, unpredictable or counterintuitive. Although such a chaotic behavior may resemble a random behavior, it is absolutely deterministic. Analytical Routes to Chaos in Nonlinear Engineering discusses analytical solutions of periodic motions to chaos or quasi-periodic motions in nonlinear dynamical systems in engineering and considers engineering applications, design, and control. It systematically discusses complex nonlinear phenomena in engineering nonlinear systems, including the periodically forced Duffing oscillator, nonlinear self-excited systems, nonlinear parametric systems and nonlinear rotor systems. Nonlinear models used in engineering are also presented and a brief history of the topic is provided. Key features: Considers engineering applications, design and control Presents analytical techniques to show how to find the periodic motions to chaos in nonlinear dynamical systems Systematically discusses complex nonlinear phenomena in engineering nonlinear systems Presents extensively used nonlinear models in engineering Analytical Routes to Chaos in Nonlinear Engineering is a practical reference for researchers and practitioners across engineering, mathematics and physics disciplines, and is also a useful source of information for graduate and senior undergraduate students in these areas.

Fourier Methods in Imaging introduces the mathematical tools for modeling linear imaging systems to predict the action of the system or for solving for the input. The chapters are grouped into five sections, the first introduces the imaging “tasks” (direct, inverse, and system analysis), the basic concepts of linear algebra for vectors and functions, including complex-valued vectors, and inner products of vectors and functions. The second section defines «special» functions, mathematical operations, and transformations that are useful for describing imaging systems. Among these are the Fourier transforms of 1-D and 2-D function, and the Hankel and Radon transforms. This section also considers approximations of the Fourier transform. The third and fourth sections examine the discrete Fourier transform and the description of imaging systems as linear «filters», including the inverse, matched, Wiener and Wiener-Helstrom filters. The final section examines applications of linear system models to optical imaging systems, including holography. Provides a unified mathematical description of imaging systems. Develops a consistent mathematical formalism for characterizing imaging systems. Helps the reader develop an intuitive grasp of the most common mathematical methods, useful for describing the action of general linear systems on signals of one or more spatial dimensions. Offers parallel descriptions of continuous and discrete cases. Includes many graphical and pictorial examples to illustrate the concepts. This book helps students develop an understanding of mathematical tools for describing general one- and two-dimensional linear imaging systems, and will also serve as a reference for engineers and scientists

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 1997 in the subject Engineering - Artificial Intelligence, grade: n/a, , language: English, abstract: This thesis deals with the problem of statistical learning. By "learning"', we mean a process by which we obtain a model of a phenomenon using data measured on it. We focus on system identification and time series modelling, and our work is naturally slightly influenced by this concern. We will for example evoke only regression estimation, and no classification problem. However, most theoretical and practical aspects presented herein can easily be adapted. We study neural networks models. This research has traditionally been linked to computer science and artificial intelligence. In the last few years however, two distinct lines of thoughts seem to diverge: the first one stays close to the biological origins of the term - we will call it "neuro-biological"; the second considers neural networks as a model, and studies them from a statistical point of view. Our work concerns the second of these lines. Furthermore, we try to stay independent of any specific application, and keep a general approach to neural networks. We attempt to exhibit the links between neural networks and statistics, and show that neural computation can be naturally placed in the realm of traditional statistics. We thus compare neural networks to other models: linear regression as well as non-parametric estimators. We also consider some of the ...

This study brings together three fields of research, which are usually analyzed in an isolated manner in the literature:- Predictability of asset returns and their covariance matrix- Optimal portfolio decision making- Nonlinear modeling, performed by artificial neural networks, and their impact on predictions as well as optimal portfolio constructionIncluding predictability in asset allocation is the focus of this work and it pays special attention to issues related to nonlinearities. The contribution of this study to the portfolio choice literature is twofold. First, motivated by the evidence of linear predictability, the impact of nonlinear predictions on portfolio performances is analyzed. Predictions are empirically performed for an investor who invests in equities (represented by the DAX index), bonds (represented by the REXP index) and a risk-free rate. Second, a solution to the dynamic programming problem for intertemporal portfolio choice is presented. The method is based on functional approximations of the investor's value function with artificial neural networks. The method is easily capable of handling multiple state variables. Hence, the effect of adding predictive parameters to the state space is the ...

But artifiial neural network solutions for "real-world" problems are sometimes hard to find because of the complexity of the domain and because of the vast number of design attributes the engineer has to deal with. This thesis provides a structured overview of attributes in the design process of artificial neural networks and reviews technical process models. Current development methods for artificial neural networks are then reviewed and critiqued. The thesis concludes with a new design and development method for artificial neural networks. An ultrasonic linear motor has many excellent performances such as high precision, quick response, hard break with no backlash, high power to weight ratio and negligible EMI. A variety of ultrasonic linear motors have been developed and used as an actuator in motion control systems. In recent years, a number of control schemes have been proposed to control the position of ultrasonic linear motors, such as fuzzy reasoning control, neural network and adaptive control. However, these control schemes are complex and hard to apply to actual implementation. Hence, this book presents two-degree-of-freedom position control schemes for ultrasonic linear motor using pseudo-derivative control with feedforward gains (PDFF) controller and I-PD controller incorporating with an input shaper, both designed by the coefficient diagram method (CDM), which is an efficient and simple method to design the parameters of controllers. The effectiveness of the proposed control schemes is demonstrated by the several simulations and experiments.

Learn a simpler and more effective way to analyze data and predict outcomes with Python Machine Learning in Python shows you how to successfully analyze data using only two core machine learning algorithms, and how to apply them using Python. By focusing on two algorithm families that effectively predict outcomes, this book is able to provide full descriptions of the mechanisms at work, and the examples that illustrate the machinery with specific, hackable code. The algorithms are explained in simple terms with no complex math and applied using Python, with guidance on algorithm selection, data preparation, and using the trained models in practice. You will learn a core set of Python programming techniques, various methods of building predictive models, and how to measure the performance of each model to ensure that the right one is used. The chapters on penalized linear regression and ensemble methods dive deep into each of the algorithms, and you can use the sample code in the book to develop your own data analysis solutions. Machine learning algorithms are at the core of data analytics and visualization. In the past, these methods required a deep background in math and statistics, often in combination with the specialized R programming language. This book demonstrates how machine learning can be implemented using the more widely used and accessible Python programming language. Predict outcomes using linear and ensemble algorithm families Build predictive models that solve a range of simple and complex problems Apply core machine learning algorithms using Python Use sample code directly to build custom solutions Machine learning doesn't have to be complex and highly specialized. Python makes this technology more accessible to a much wider audience, using methods that are simpler, effective, and well tested. Machine Learning in Python shows you how to do this, without requiring an extensive background in math or statistics.

The control of uncertain non-linear plants is a challenging task. Adaptive Fuzzy Controllers have been applied widely for the control of such processes. The book discusses one particular approach to the fuzzy controllers. Adaptive Model Free Fuzzy Control is a goal oriented approach which tries to control the plant based on the information available without specifically modeling the plant. The prime objective of the controller is to reduce the control error. The book discusses two different model free control structures and their relative merits and de-merits. Four different fuzzy identification schemes have been discussed which can be used to train the controller parameters. The simulation results from both the controllers have been included to get a better understanding of the control performance. The cooling coil of an air handling unit is used for the realistic testing of the controllers.

Price Dynamics in Equilibrium Models - The Search for Equilibrium and the Emergence of Endogenous Fluctuations

Подробнее...

16923 руб.
A long-standing unsolved problem in economic theory is how economic equilibria are attained. Price Dynamics in Equilibrium Models: The Search for Equilibrium and the Emergence of Endogenous Fluctuations considers a number of adjustment processes in different economic models and investigates their dynamical behaviour. Two important themes arising in this context are "bounded rationality" and "nonlinear dynamics". Important sub-themes of the book are the following: how do boundedly rational agents interact with their environment and does this interaction in some sense lead to rational outcomes (which may or may not correspond to equilibria)? The second sub-theme deals with the consequences of the nonlinear dynamical nature of many adjustment processes. The results presented in this volume indicate that endogenous fluctuations are the rule rather than the exception in the search for equilibrium. The book uses the theory of nonlinear dynamics to analyze the dynamics of the different economic models. Due to the complexity of most of the models, an important role is played by computational methods. In particular, at regular instances the models are analyzed by numerical simulations and some computer-assisted proofs are provided. It also covers a wide range of dynamical models from economic theory. Most of these models merge the theory of nonlinear economic dynamics with the theory of bounded rationality. The book is written for anyone with an interest in economic theory in general ...

A comprehensive look at state-of-the-art ADP theory and real-world applications This book fills a gap in the literature by providing a theoretical framework for integrating techniques from adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) and modern nonlinear control to address data-driven optimal control design challenges arising from both parametric and dynamic uncertainties. Traditional model-based approaches leave much to be desired when addressing the challenges posed by the ever-increasing complexity of real-world engineering systems. An alternative which has received much interest in recent years are biologically-inspired approaches, primarily RADP. Despite their growing popularity worldwide, until now books on ADP have focused nearly exclusively on analysis and design, with scant consideration given to how it can be applied to address robustness issues, a new challenge arising from dynamic uncertainties encountered in common engineering problems. Robust Adaptive Dynamic Programming zeros in on the practical concerns of engineers. The authors develop RADP theory from linear systems to partially-linear, large-scale, and completely nonlinear systems. They provide in-depth coverage of state-of-the-art applications in power systems, supplemented with numerous real-world examples implemented in MATLAB. They also explore fascinating reverse engineering topics, such how ADP theory can be applied to the study of the human brain and cognition. In addition, the book: Covers the latest developments in RADP theory and applications for solving a range of systems’ complexity problems Explores multiple real-world implementations in power systems with illustrative examples backed up by reusable MATLAB code and Simulink block sets Provides an overview of nonlinear control, machine learning, and dynamic control Features discussions of novel applications for RADP theory, including an entire chapter on how it can be used as a computational mechanism of human movement control Robust Adaptive Dynamic Programming is both a valuable working resource and an intriguing exploration of contemporary ADP theory and applications for practicing engineers and advanced students in systems theory, control engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics.

This book considers various extensions of the topics treated in the first volume of this series, in relation to the class of models and the type of criterion for optimality. The regressors are supposed to belong to a generic finite dimensional Haar linear space, which substitutes for the classical polynomial case. The estimation pertains to a general linear form of the coefficients of the model, extending the interpolation and extrapolation framework; the errors in the model may be correlated, and the model may be heteroscedastic. Non-linear models, as well as multivariate ones, are briefly discussed. The book focuses to a large extent on criteria for optimality, and an entire chapter presents algorithms leading to optimal designs in multivariate models. Elfving’s theory and the theorem of equivalence are presented extensively. The volume presents an account of the theory of the approximation of real valued functions, which makes it self-consistent.

Explore and analyze the solutions of mathematical models from diverse disciplines As biology increasingly depends on data, algorithms, and models, it has become necessary to use a computing language, such as the user-friendly MATLAB, to focus more on building and analyzing models as opposed to configuring tedious calculations. Explorations of Mathematical Models in Biology with MATLAB provides an introduction to model creation using MATLAB, followed by the translation, analysis, interpretation, and observation of the models. With an integrated and interdisciplinary approach that embeds mathematical modeling into biological applications, the book illustrates numerous applications of mathematical techniques within biology, ecology, and environmental sciences. Featuring a quantitative, computational, and mathematical approach, the book includes: Examples of real-world applications, such as population dynamics, genetics, drug administration, interacting species, and the spread of contagious diseases, to showcase the relevancy and wide applicability of abstract mathematical techniques Discussion of various mathematical concepts, such as Markov chains, matrix algebra, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, first-order linear difference equations, and nonlinear first-order difference equations Coverage of difference equations to model a wide range of real-life discrete time situations in diverse areas as well as discussions on matrices to model linear problems Solutions to selected exercises and additional MATLAB codes Explorations of Mathematical Models in Biology with MATLAB is an ideal textbook for upper-undergraduate courses in mathematical models in biology, theoretical ecology, bioeconomics, forensic science, applied mathematics, and environmental science. The book is also an excellent reference for biologists, ecologists, mathematicians, biomathematicians, and environmental and resource economists.

Provides an easy-to-understand guide to statistical linear models and its uses in data analysis This book defines a broad spectrum of statistical linear models that is useful in the analysis of data. Considerable rewriting was done to make the book more reader friendly than the first edition. Linear Models, Second Edition is written in such a way as to be self-contained for a person with a background in basic statistics, calculus and linear algebra. The text includes numerous applied illustrations, numerical examples, and exercises, now augmented with computer outputs in SAS and R. Also new to this edition is: • A greatly improved internal design and format • A short introductory chapter to ease understanding of the order in which topics are taken up • Discussion of additional topics including multiple comparisons and shrinkage estimators • Enhanced discussions of generalized inverses, the MINQUE, Bayes and Maximum Likelihood estimators for estimating variance components Furthermore, in this edition, the second author adds many pedagogical elements throughout the book. These include numbered examples, end-of-example and end-of-proof symbols, selected hints and solutions to exercises available on the book’s website, and references to “big data” in everyday life. Featuring a thorough update, Linear Models, Second Edition includes: • A new internal format, additional instructional pedagogy, selected hints and solutions to exercises, and several more real-life applications • Many examples using SAS and R with timely data sets • Over 400 examples and exercises throughout the book to reinforce understanding Linear Models, Second Edition is a textbook and a reference for upper-level undergraduate and beginning graduate-level courses on linear models, statisticians, engineers, and scientists who use multiple regression or analysis of variance in their work. SHAYLE R. SEARLE, PhD, was Professor Emeritus of Biometry at Cornell University. He was the author of the first edition of Linear Models, Linear Models for Unbalanced Data, and Generalized, Linear, and Mixed Models (with Charles E. McCulloch), all from Wiley. The first edition of Linear Models appears in the Wiley Classics Library. MARVIN H. J. GRUBER, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at Rochester Institute of Technology, School of Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Gruber has written a number of papers and has given numerous presentations at professional meetings during his tenure as a professor at RIT. His fields of interest include regression estimators and the improvement of their efficiency using shrinkage estimators. He has written and published two books on this topic. Another of his books, Matrix Algebra for Linear Models, also published by Wiley, provides good preparation for studying Linear Models. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association.
