In recent years, along with the rise of global warming issue, researches of renewable energy usage for producing electricity are sprung up. The penetration of renewable energy usage to microgrid brings new challenge as most of the renewable energy are unpredictable. In order to get optimal microgrid operation, integration of methods and softwares are needed in microgrid analysis. This study will use OpenDSS in cooperation with Matlab. Thus optimization algorithm implementation can be achieved by Matlab and simulations of microgrid performed in OpenDSS. The establishment constructs a flexible framework for microgrid analysis which is extensible for various practical studies.

Thus, Multi-Microgrid islanding and load following are key studies to be performed within the framework of autonomous operation mode. Using detailed mathematical models able to accurately represent the Microgrid dynamics requires dealing with very high dimension systems. Thus, this book aims deriving dynamic equivalents for Microgrids to reduce the whole system complexity to a computational feasible size and, at the same time, speed up numerical simulations with limited technical resources. Rasch model analysis for analysing the quantitative data was applied for having more valid and reliable results.

Proposed research framework aims at generating computerized conceptual product designs by incorporating Modularity, Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Variety (DFV) principles at the conceptual design stage. Conceptual design alternatives from the proposed framework are ranked based on minimum assembly time and are composed of modules in a way that future changes in customer needs are satisfied only by replacing certain modules. The framework involves searching a design repository of components by using functional-basis and pre-defined graph grammar rules, to generate all possible conceptual design alternatives. These are ranked and filtered using a DFA index, and top two alternatives are selected. Selected designs are modularized and filtered using a DFV index to obtain the best design alternative. The proposed framework is demonstrated through the design of two electro-mechanical products.

Knowledge modeling of image analysis and interpretation

This book focuses on design and development of a unified framework for radiographic image analysis and interpretation with emphasis on defect classification. The framework is constructed by creating two ontologies namely process ontology and domain ontology. Process ontology structures information for performing gray scale image analysis and it is maintained as a knowledgebase. The images are analyzed by using the process plan which resulted in the enhanced images from which geometrical, statistical and textural features are extracted to construct domain ontology. In addition to that, details of welding defects in radiographic image are conceptualized and maintained in the domain ontology. The framework includes a flexible user interface through which the experts’ knowledge of the domain can be uploaded into the knowledgebase. The knowledgebase search is minimized into single selection on the domain ontology using which the entire content of defects and type of defect appearing in the image can be visualized. The performance study shows that the developed unified framework outperformed the other two models viz. neural and statistical with respect to classification of defects.

A participatory approach was used in data collection and preliminary analysis of primary data. Key factors notably input availability, markets, prices were then incorporated using multivariate analysis to design experiments that gave provided data for the bio-economic analysis and modelling of promising production options.

A framework for adaptive weather sensing using phased-array radar

Over the past 20 years, the WSR-88D radars have improved the understanding of weather phenomena. However, for fast-evolving weather phenomena, rapid scan are desired. This book showed a new approach for weather sensing referred as adaptive weather sensing. Therefore, the main purposes of this work were to increase the temporal data resolution of storm cells maintaining the data quality as for conventional WSR-88D sensing. A complete framework was presented for adaptive weather sensing using a phased-array radar due to its capability of agile beam. Two quality measures were developed to quantify the benefits from adaptive over conventional weather sensing. Moreover, reflectivity data taken from archived NCDC data was used to assess the performance of the framework. The statistic analysis revealed that storm cells can be revisit about three times faster using adaptive than conventional sensing. This work demonstrated results of the first attempt to use phased-array radar for adaptive weather sensing.

The present study analyzes the stability of the demand for money function in India over the period 1991:M4–2014:M9 using co-integration and Vector Error Correction Mechanism (VECM ) framework. From analysis, it has been observed that there exists a stable demand for money function in India during the post-reforms period, i. e. a long-run relationship does exist between demand for real balances, national output (Yt ), rate of interest (Rt) and exchange rate (ERt). Two variables Yt and ERt have been observed to be affecting demand for real balances positively, while the observed effect of M2 is negative. Thus, the signs and magnitudes of all three regressors have been observed according to a-priori information without any paradoxical situation.

It also shows the use of Petri nets as a way to model the interactions between the different agents and consequently analyze the system. The proposed framework was used to model an experimental set-up for a fire detection surveillance system and for a patrolling problem using three robots.

The objective is to present experimentation, modeling and analysis of compression spring for static, fatigue. Experimentation is carried out using load checking machine (M006) for static analysis and for fatigue life analysis fatigue testing machine (M08) is used. Modeling is done using CATIA V5 and ANSYS. Analysis is carried out by using HYPERMESH as a pre-processor, NASTRAN as a solver And Hyper view as a post processor. ANSYS14.0software was also used for analysis for better understanding and comparison result with NASTRAN. From the study, it is seen that the fatigue life of stainless steel compression spring is more as compared to that of hard drawn wire for same stiffness (same load carrying capacity).It is observed that the maximum stress is developed at the inner side of the spring coil. The NASTRAN and ANSYS allowable design stress is found between the corresponding loads 3 N to 6 N. Therefore it is concluded that the maximum safe pay load for the given specification of the helical compression spring is 4 N. A comparative study has been made of a redesign spring with respect to stress, fatigue life, safe pay load.

In this book our statistical analysis model is used for a generic mid-IR pulsed-laser gas detection system to predict trace gas detection and concentration estimation. The overall system statistical analysis model allows us to comprehensively evaluate and analyze a gas detection system as a whole, instead of merely looking at the system components individually. The generic analysis model can be specified with other system component (laser source, optical cavity, and photo-detector) parameter values, representing systems for different applications; thus, this generic analysis model can be used to evaluate the performance of a variety of gas detection systems represented by this model.

Series resonant inverters are the source of very high frequency energy and are used for high frequency applications. SRIs are connected to the load through high frequency transformers to improve the current gain. Inclusion of transformers and RL load leads to higher frequency harmonic components in the load voltage. Harmonic analysis of a basic SRIs (Class – A), feeding RL load: considering transformer parameters is considered. System is modelled first in continuous time domain and then harmonic analysis is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Whole analysis is extended to the discrete time domain approach for the analysis of the system. The response of the system is discretised using bi-linear transformation. A generalized algorithm for power series method is suggested for getting inverse z – transform, to obtain sampled data of the response (load voltage). Stability analysis in discrete time domain is carried out using the proposed approach for Modified Schur cohn criterion for a system in discrete time domain. FFT analysis is carried out on the sampled data using LAB View 7.0.

The usage of native language through Internet is highly demanding due to rapid increase of Internet based applications. Universal Networking Language (UNL) addresses this issue by converting any natural language to UNL expressions followed by UNL expressions to respective native language. We present a framework and tools for modelling and performance analysis of multiprocessor embedded systems. Our framework consists of component-based models for modelling parallel software and multiprocessor hardware, and tools for code generation and performance analysis. The framework allows jointly analyzing software and hardware performance rather than evaluating each one in isolation. This joint evaluation enables predicting the impact of hardware on software performance and the ability of hardware performance to accommodate future services at design time. The framework component model relies on transaction-level description of hardware and programmer-level description of software. We apply the framework for analyzing the performance of several implementations of a MPEG-4 video encoding on custom multimedia hardware, Philips Wasabi/Cake NoC and IPv4 packet forwarding over the Intel dual IXP2800 NP. The experiments carried out on these real-life industrial-size applications show that our framework is scalable and delivers precise performance results with fast simulation speed.

Cache Modeling for Timing Analysis in Real-Time Systems

Caches in Embedded Systems improve average case performance, but they are a source of unpredictability, especially in the worst case software timing analysis with the consideration of data caches. This is a critical problem in real-time systems, where tight Worst Case Execution Time (WCET) is required for their schedulability analysis. Few works have studied data cache impacts on the WCET of programs, but only for programs with no input-dependent data accesses. To provide an efficient and accurate analysis for input-dependent data accesses, we develop classified cache architecture and a WCET framework for the architecture. Our work classifies predictable and unpredictable accesses, then allocates them into predictable caches and unpredictable caches accordingly, and uses CME (Cache Miss Equations) and our reuse-distance-based algorithm for their timing analysis respectively. Compared with simulation, our analysis framework produces a very good WCET tightness, and our architecture creates almost no hardware overhead or performance degradation. In addition, we examine NP-completeness of WCET analysis. We also explore data allocation techniques to improve system performance.

The proposed framework uses a hybrid supervised/unsupervised learning approach to speed up the system as well as to detect zero-day phishing e-mail attacks with a high level of accuracy and a low memory footprint. The proposed framework was tested, and a dynamic preprocessing and feature extraction system was implemented. MATLAB was used for the connectionist framework of the system engine as well as for computation.

This study investigates influence of brain MR segmentation techniques and implements a framework in Python for a uniform interface to the three different automated segmentation software tools (SPM,FSL and FreeSurfer) in order to be able to compare them consistently. This is done by using the Nipype (Neuroimaging in Python, Pipelines and Interfaces) which provides a uniform interface to these neuroimaging software tools. In addition, the tissue probability maps, masks and surfaces that are required for the head model construction are generated with this framework. The source reconstruction results with the head models constructed with different segmentation tools are evaluated based on the distance error from the source location to the lesion in the post-operative MR images. The SPM head models produced lowest distances error compared to the FSL and the FreeSurfer head models for two patients.

A systematic approach of seismic microzonation is explained in this book. A case study conducted is described with results and discussion. In the present study, seismic hazard analysis of political capital city of Kerala, south India is carried out using deterministic approach. Using the vulnerable source ground motion is simulated by stochastic finite fault simulation method. The ground motion is simulated at rock level for 100 sites within the study area. Using the Geographic Information System (GIS) software the rock level acceleration is mapped for study area. The influence of local soil condition on ground motion is studied by one- dimensional ground response analysis. The results obtained from seismic hazard analysis and ground response analysis at 100 locations of the study area is used to prepare the microzonation maps of the city in GIS environment.

This thesis assesses the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action at local level of Kabokweni location, South Africa. The Hyogo Framework for Action is a framework, adopted by the United Nations, focuses on promoting proactive disaster management rather than reactive. This report is based on a case study using a questionnaire called the Views from the Frontline LITE. The questionnaire is developed by the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction as an alternative data collection method to the Views from the Frontline project. This thesis assesses, both in a qualitative and a quantitative way, how well the Hyogo Framework for Action and disaster risk reduction has been implemented in Kabokweni location. The findings of this thesis can be compared and used in other assessments using the Views from the Frontline approach since the Views from the Frontline LITE questionnaire has been used.

Evaluating protected area network of Nepal by using GIS

A protected area network is effective only when it adequately covers the samples of important ecological, ecoregion, elevation and physiographical regions including critically endangered biota of a region. This study used geographic information system and conducted a chronological analysis for ecological, ecoregion, elevation and physiographical representativeness of protected area system of Nepal since 1970s to present. A Comparison Index was used for the analysis. Current system of protected area system was analyzed for degree of fragmentation by using index of fragmentation. Though Nepal has set aside sizable areas i.e. 23.33% total area for protected area network, the analysis identified many gaps in current network.
